AC Adapter [?]

AC adapter, or Power Adapter, is an external power source in which the laptop receives power from and to charge batteries during operations. It converts power from a standard 120 Volt AC wall outlet to typically 16-19V DC source rounded connector plug output with current rating of around 4-5A. The rounded connector plug tip comes in various sizes and should be noted when ordering a replacement adapter.  In addition to output volage and current, the polarity is also indicated in the label as well. The polarity indicates if the rounded connector is positive on the inside and negative on the outside or vice versa.  The AC Adapter specification is located on the label as seen in the photo below.

 AC Adapter FAQ:

Q:  I am looking to buy a new adapter, what should I look for and what are your suggestions?

A:  There are three things you have to check for to guarantee compatibility.  Make sure the (1) adapter tip,  (2) the voltage and current ratings and (3) the polarity are the same.  I do not suggest buying a generic adapter as they are low quality and does not last very long. They sometime have humming noise and can generate more heat that the genuine original equipment manufacture (OEM) provided.
