Although scientific affixes are important to persons who are interested in the medical sciences (medicine, zoology, biology, dentistry, pharmacology, physical therapy etc.), they should also be part of the vocabulary of any well-educated English-speaker. The different standardized tests which all students are obligated to take, are full of scientific affixes which everyone, despite their area of interest, must know. The SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE and LSAT test one’s knowledge of those Latin- and Greek-based words which are taught, and hopefully learnt, in school rather than in the home. One's knowledge, and use, of these words are used in English to determine, as well as to demonstrate, one's educational level.
