For nearly a century, Kansas State University's football program traveled a broken and bumpy road strewn with fustration and failure. Highlights occurred, great players and great coaches passed through Manhattan, but sustained success escaped the Wildcats. Yet hope never died. This will be the year. This will be the game. This will be the play. However, the hope went mostly unrewarded. Then in 1989, Coach Bill Snyder took over a program will-versed in defeat and began to implement his strategy for improving the situation and a "Will to Win". He simply asked that all associated with program attempt to get a little better each day. A dramatic turnaround began slowly. Finally after 11 seasons success had arrived. The Wildcats played in seven straight bowl games and the program grew into a national power. This painting by Jerry Thomas commemorates the great players and great moments of Snyder's Wildcats through the 1999 season. Finally, K-State fans can say with confidence that this is the season, this is the game, this is the play. Hope has been rewarded.
