Petroglyph Details: The Ancient Hawaiians called their stone art ki’i pohaku, which translates to "images in stone." The ki’i pohaku are petroglyphs, which comes from the Greek words, "petros" meaning "rock", and "glyphein" meaning "to carve." This Hawaiian form of rock art provides a look into the ancient past, but leaves many questions behind as there is very little evidence of the petroglyph’s origins in the Hawaiian Islands. The earliest carvings were simple stick figures, while the figures with triangular torsos that are only found in Hawaii, developed later on.
