NOTE: This Hawaiian Pattern Was Created to Honor the Late Ali`i `o Hawai`i (King/Queen, Prince/Princess, High Chief/Chiefess, Monarch, Noble, Royalty); It is Sometimes Referred to as the "Tropical Maile", "Lei Maile", or the "Lei of Royalty" Pattern and Has Dedicated Associations to Hula Kahiko (Ancient Hula). Several of these particular Hawai`ian Heirloom patterns remain an enduring and endearing symbol of Hawai`i's monarchy period and originally set the basis precedent as very traditional heirloom designs evolving into the very detailed modern designs today, which are still traditionally passed down through ohana (family) generations. The original Heritage design evolved from one of Queen Lili`uokalani's inspired bracelet designs of a similar pattern featuring Hawai`ian pua (flowers) and la`au (plants). In this way, she transferred her deep feelings for her birthplace, home and people from her heart to her bracelets; a sentimental reminder for herself and a symbol for others to admire. Other heirloom designs, such as the Queen Emma pattern, was created to dedicate the design in her name sake. Yet, others such as the Princess Scrolls, Royal Lei Maile, Pua Melia (Plumeria), or Kuiki Huikau (Mixed Quilts) offer symbolic meanings only certain individuals can appreciate and cherish with a pride of ownership for their very own. Hawai`ian Heirloom jewelry has become increasingly sought after as interest in the Islands' unique heritage continues to grow. Brand New, Never Used Silver Hawaiian Heirloom Keiki (Childrens) Bangle. 100% .925 Solid Sterling Silver (Not Plated, Not Bonded, Not Filled) Child's Heirloom Bangle With Hand-Engraved Accents.
- Symbolism: Maile Eia la he`ala, he`ala anuanu, he ala hu`ihu`i, eia la i ka houpo (Here is a fragrance, a cool fragrance, a chilling fragrance that goes to my heart). This native Hawaiian vine, with glossy, deep green, highly fragrant leaves, is a member of the periwinkle family and is also associated with Laka, the goddess of Hula. Maile along with other plants of the native forest were considered sacred to Laka and were offered at her altar during hula dance practices and ceremonies. In ancient Hawai`i, maile was also considered a peace offering in the field of battle. The highly fragrant Maile leaves were thought to possess supernatural powers and were directly associated with the gods and goddesses of Hawai`i. Today, maile leaves are used for decorations and leis, and are especially reserved for important and memorable occasions. Hawaiians have a long tradition of assembling the fragrant maile into lei. The placing of a lei over the head and around the shoulders of a person exemplifies the bestowing of honor and respect to the wearer, and also the spirit of aloha. To have a lei maile is to be wearing a symbol that tells other people that it's your special day. Wedding lei maile are a Hawaiian wedding tradition. Maile is also commonly used to drape over a doorway at formal grand opening ceremonies for a new business to bring good luck. In place of cutting the ribbon, there is the untying of the maile. For Hawaiians, the Lei Maile has no other equal; to be given a Maile lei is a great honor and a true sign of respect. Plumeria Flowers have a rich and deep symbolism in many ancient cultures making it a wonderful choice for a very symbolic and meaningful design. The Hawaiians have always had a close relationship with nature and the beauty of the islands. They have always especially appreciated the ocean and the many tropical flowers inhabiting the islands. To Hawai`i, the Pua Melia (Plumeria, aka Frangipani) flower is a symbol of Spring and therefore is associated with birth and life. Plumerias are certainly symbols of Aloha. This explains why their images can be found in the logos and advertising of even the most unlikely businesses. And their fragrance? If you’ve ever smelled them you would know what this means. Combining these characteristics along with symbolism of life and the arrival of Spring creates a magical formula that is essence and ambiance of Hawai`i. - Design: Hawaiian Royal Lei Maile With Plumeria Flower; Cutout, Slightly Raised Surface Design, Hand-Engraved, High Polish Finish, Scalloped (Cutout) Border Edges, Barrel Medium Sterling Silver Wire, Oval Shape. - Color/s: Sterling Silver. - Measures: Approx. ================================================================================= When sizing for a bangle- Take a soft measuring tape and measure the circumference of your very tightly clenched hand with your four fingers straight and your thumb turned in to touch your ring finger or pinky (this should make your hand the smallest possible). Please measure over your knuckles (fist area) using inches. Measure snugly around widest area of hand (not wrist). This would be your approximate size. Please remember that it is your HAND that is to be accurately measured, and NOT your wrist. The bangle must be able to slide on and off over your hand comfortably. =================================================================================
